Henry Cowell 2023 | One Night Camping Among The Redwoods

Overview

This was a small weekend camping trip to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. The rhythm was simple: hike in the park during the day, camp at night, and let the redwood forest do most of the work.

Day 1 | Park Entrance, Redwood Trail, And Camp Setup

We started with the park sign and officially switched into weekend mode.

The redwood trail was easy to walk. The tree trunks were big enough that the kids could spend a long time playing around the hollows.

In the evening we set up the new North Face tent for the first time. It felt stable and roomy enough, though the campsite itself was compact once tables, chairs, and gear spread out.

Dinner was simple grilled steak, which gave the night just the right camping ceremony.

Day 2 | More Hiking, Ridge Views, And Small Forest Details

The second day we kept walking around the park. The trail had plenty of plants, with small purple and yellow flowers along the way.

We also saw a few banana slugs, slowly moving through the forest in the most old-growth way possible. Higher up, the ridge opened into a wide view, and the final panorama made the climb feel worth it.
