Overview

This time we joined the Monterey Sea Otter bike expo and rides over two days and one night:

  • Day 1: 50-mile ride, finished comfortably
  • Day 2: family 10+ mile fun ride
  • The rest of the time was walking the expo and checking out brands

The event mood was excellent, and both the routes and family activities felt friendly.

Day 1 | Easy Finish On The 50-Mile Ride

On the first day, I started with the riding group. Everyone felt good, and the weather helped. The 50-mile route was easier than expected once the pace settled.

Day 2 | Family 10+ Mile Fun Ride

The second day was the family fun ride. Baozi and Tangyuan both finished more than 10 miles smoothly, and the sense of accomplishment at the end was strong.

Around The Expo

The Sea Otter expo area is genuinely large. Brands, bikes, parts, gear, and clothing are everywhere, and it is easy to spend a lot of time just walking and talking to booths.

Takeaways

  1. Sea Otter works well as a combined cycling and family activity weekend.
  2. A distance challenge on Day 1 plus a family fun ride on Day 2 felt balanced.
  3. The expo has a high brand density, so leave enough time to walk it.

Two days and one night felt very full. If the schedule works, I would come back next year.
